    When trying to add Google verification tag to head section (editor -> theme header) there is an error.

    Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.

    Addint Google meta tag via header widget doesn’t work. How to get verified by Google then?

    It is out the scope of theme query.
    But we would like to give you some tips. You need to upload a file on your root of the WordPress ( Website ).
    You can find other options in the internet, or you need help from developers.
