    But to *change* the text? Is the only option to build a custom slider?

    I’m not sure how it can be clearer – the screenshot is already in the post, see above. As you can see the title over the image defaults to the name of the theme.

    Clearly that is not appropriate for most uses – how is this text changed?

    Hmm.. ok

    Except I already have all the title text set..

    Do you mean edit the page? There is no other option to change the title. I cannot see anything related to the slider when editing the page.
