    My site is looking cluttered/squashed. I’d like the website to be wider, and I’d like to control the widget width to shrink the left sidebar down and widen the content area. Was told to post here as it’s a CSS change. Trawled through the CSS can’t find anything relevant. Can anyone help? http://kevheritage.com

    Hello Kev,
    Please add the below CSS codes on Appearance > Customize > Layout Design Options > Custom CSS

    .site-content {
        margin: 0 auto;
        max-width: 1300px;
        width: 100%;
    }

    Hope this will solve your problem.

    Warm Regards

    Hi! Thanks for that. It increases the size of everything. Including text, so the cluttered feel remains, just on a larger scale. I’m after making the page and widgets wider, but keeping the graphics and button and text etc. at the size they are now.

    Hello Kev,
    Can you please provide us the screenshot of that specific place what you need exactly. It help us to understand your requirements very easily.

    Thank You

    A screenshot won’t help. I have three columns

    250px Left sidebar
    Main Content area (unsure of width)
    250px Right sidebar

    Most importantly, I want to increase the width of the central area. The fix you suggested (many thanks) increased the size of everything (including text and images).

    I would like to keep the sidebars as they are, and increase the central main area – so that it’s less cramped.

    Is there a percentage/pixel width in the CSS that can be changed to increase the width of main content area only (ignoring the sidebars) and that doesn’t also increase text and image size?

    It seems that you are familiar with CSS. Please add the below CSS codes and maintain width with the help of commented info there.

    //left sidebar and main content area width
    .both-sidebar #primary-wrap {
        float: left;
        width: 76%;
    }
    //main content area width
    .both-sidebar #primary-wrap #primary {
        float: right;
        width: 70%;
    }
    //left sidebar width
    .both-sidebar #primary-wrap #secondary-left {
        float: left;
        width: 30%;
    }
    //right sidebar width
    .both-sidebar #secondary-right {
        float: right;
        width: 24%;
    }

    If the design will not as good as you want, you can change the width % above and maintain the width.
    Hope, this will solve the issues.

    Warm Regards
