    When I try to upload a photo the gallery thumbnail of the image gets cropped.

    What size should the images I upload to the WordPress be if I want to use them as the featured photo that appears in the gallery widget?

    Actually it is the PORTFOLIO widget. not the GALLERY

    Hello Adam,

    If you are using Image cropped plugin like Acme Fix image, Thumbnail Regenerate, Ajax thumbnail rebuild or similar kinds of plugin your image will crop. This has own advantages and disadvantages, your image will fit but it cropped.

    Please deactivate the plugins or if there is option to select image size select proper image size.
